Dino Week! (Unit #2)

For our second unit, we learned about dinosaurs!

This was one of Kyleigh's top picks to study, and I knew she would have a blast!  We spent this past week learning all about dinosaurs and doing fun activities.  I didn't get to everything that I had planned, and I've been debating if we should spend another week on the topic.

Our niece, Lillian, also joined in on the fun!  She is 18 months, and loved the activities we did!

The internet is an amazing source for free worksheets and information!  This is true for not only this topic, but many others!  Pinterest is also amazing!

Our Dino Wall!  Our daughter loved this.

A free book my husband brought home from work.  It had a few helpful hints and a

couple pages I took out to use!

She learned about the letter "D".  She loved

coloring it, and we later hung it on our Dino Wall!

She likes to dip things..  So, she was

dipping her dinosaurs into the water.  She also placed 

every single one in the bowl.  Goofy girl.

To finish up with our dinosaur week, we are going to be going to a nearby museum that has a dinosaur exhibit!  Kyleigh is extremely excited!

All about ME! (Unit #1)

For our first unit, we worked on activities that helped Kyleigh learn more about herself!

Kyleigh and I discussed the difference between inside and outside beauty.  After giving her a couple of examples, I asked her what made her beautiful on the inside and out - These were her answers!  She then decorated a "mirror".

Our next project was for her to make a self-portrait!  I helped her in just a few areas - She glued everything and decorated it!  She made sure to have the light brown hair, the curls, the blue eyes...

The value of worksheets...

As we begin on this homeschooling adventure, I've come to realize the value of worksheets.  Homeschooling, at least to me, is not all about worksheets and 100% organized work.  There are homeschooling opportunities all throughout the day, every where that you go.  However, they do serve a purpose.

We are homeschooling on a budget - As such, I have spent a lot of time searching through the internet, on the hunt for free items to help with this journey.  It is amazing how many free worksheets and ideas there are out there!

My daughter has loved the worksheets!  I have found so many different types - I printed a large amount, and then have tucked the majority away until we work on that specific subject.  Such as, I found a lot of dinosaur ones.  This coming week is our dinosaur week!  I also found a lot of marine based ones - Our marine life unit will be coming up, and I will pull those ones out as needed.

These worksheets are also helpful if I need a few minutes to get something done, and she can have something educational to do.

I think if my daughter had it her way, we would spend 90% of the time working on them!

For one of our activities, Kyleigh made a thank you card for her grandma.  She told me what to write inside, and she colored it.  She was so excited to show her grandma.  

A little bit about us!

I just want to share a little bit about us:

Kyleigh just turned 5 this month.  How did this happen?

She has always had a passion for learning.  And, unfortunately, she missed the cutoff for kindergarten by ONE day this year.  While I did feel bad because I felt that she was ready and I knew that she would love to go to school, I was also grateful to have another year with her at home with me.

I am determined to spend this next year encouraging her in every way, opening her mind up to many different things, teaching her whatever I can, and enjoying every second with her!

We have started with a kindergarten curriculum.  There are many on the internet and in the store that you can buy.  However, there are so many free items available online.  I have searched and searched, and have put together my very own curriculum that fits her needs.
